Tell us a little about you and your partner, what you do,  how did you meet, what you love, what is unique about you and your relationship…

Having run in a few of the same circles as kids, just several years apart, we never would have met if it weren’t for swiping right! Our first date didn’t go off without a hitch as Simon fell asleep and almost didn’t make it, but that was 5 years ago. It was a whirlwind romance being driven around from date to date in Simon’s BMW, but fast forward 4 months and he was moving to the UK for work bringing our budding relationship to an abrupt halt.

Worlds apart and in opposite time zones I sent Simon a message one day with “there are worse places in the world to live than London” so I packed my bags and bought a one-way ticket! That’s when our adventure really began… For the next two years we explored the UK and Europe together visiting 15 countries, 42 cities, 88 palaces, castles and chateaus and 5 beer halls. Thousands of photos were taken, many experiences had, and special memories made before returning home.

After settling back into a new life at home Simon whisked me away for a romantic weekend of glamping at Phoenix Valley and on February 16th, 2019 Simon got down on one knee and proposed and I said yes! Obviously. Fast forward 1 year and 8 months and we were getting married at Markovina Vineyard Estate. Just 3 weeks after we tied the knot we got our little fur baby, a cavoodle named Bailey and things have been pretty full on ever since!

Tell us about your special day, how did you choose the location? Tell us a little about the setting, the styling and some of your favourite details…

We knew we wanted an outdoor ceremony but didn’t want a beach wedding so set about researching venues with nice outdoor areas, gardens, vineyards, etc. We visited about 8 different venues and with each one we visited we learnt a little bit more about what was important, what different packages and costings places had, and what they had to offer us. It was early on in this we realised that an indoor ceremony backup location if the weather was bad was essential and it had to be one that we liked and would be happy with if the ceremony couldn’t be outside. Markovina Estate was the second venue we visited, and it was the one we fell in love with. With beautiful gardens, raving reviews, delicious food, a back-of-house full of all those little decoration details free to use and a lovely purpose-built indoor ceremony area it was the venue for us.

I would describe our wedding as elegant and romantic. With our ceremony at the stunning chestnut tree and reception under a canopy of vines and twinkly lights there wasn’t too much that needed to be done. We simply decorated with soft pinks and whites from the invitations to the florals to the cake and the attire. Pinterest was my greatest friend and I found many cute little ideas on here that I then crafted for our day – names tags, sparkler tags and confetti cones.

Tell us about your wedding dress and any tips you have for future brides….

My wedding dress turned out not to be quite what I had had in mind, but as soon as I was in it I knew it was the one and so did everyone around me!  Cizzy Bridal – Linsey is an absolutely gorgeous gown that made me feel like a princess. Despite all its layers and being strapless, this dress was light, comfortable and never slipped. The lace work on the bodice is beautiful and that skirt…WOW!

My advice to future brides – always keep an open mind and try it on, dresses really do need a body in them to see their real beauty. Oh and if you’re having a garden wedding and a dress with many layers, perhaps spray some insect repellent over the skirt. I remember looking down at my dress at the altar and seeing so so so many midges trapped in all the layers. Luckily the camera doesn’t pick them up.

What was the most memorable moment from the day…

The most memorable moment of the day was probably the moment the heavens opened right at the end of our ceremony when the license was being signed by our witnesses. Standing at the altar looking back at all our guests huddling under white umbrella’s and ducking for cover under the trees. It was just a really cool moment, certainly not what we had hoped for, but it only added to the day.

What was your most “LOL” moment of the day

My LOL moment was trying so hard to get Simon’s ring on his finger which just would not go on!

Honeymoon destination…

The dream honeymoon destination was the Caribbean, days spent lying on the beach sipping cocktails, but then COVID. So we ended up honeymooning in Queenstown, not a bad alternative at all, but I’m still booking that Caribbean honeymoon just as soon as I can!!!

Tell us about your experience at Jessica Bridal / your bridal stylist…

Adelle was my bridal stylist and did a wonderful job. She made me feel at ease, was very lovely and accommodating, letting me try on many different dresses until we had narrowed it down and then happy for me to go away and think about it and come back and try my favourites on again.  Fritz looked after me when my dress arrived, and he managed the alterations doing a terrific job tailoring it to fit me like a glove! As I said earlier, my strapless dress never slipped or felt like it was falling down once!
