Tell us a little about you and your partner, what you do,  how did you meet, what you love, what is unique about you and your relationship…

Ash and I met in high school (set up by one of my bridesmaids) and have been together ever since. We have been very lucky in life that we met so early and though it has not always been easy with long distance for a few months every year we have always pulled through together and stronger. We are both relaxed people who love the outdoors and have a soft spot for animals (opening our home to foster kittens). He is now an engineer and takes pride in his work and attention for detail while I am an Occupational Therapist and thrive looking after and helping others. Over our almost 11 years together we have found that trusting in each other and working together we can achieve any goal we set, and we never forget to appreciate each other even for the small things.

Tell us about your special day, how did you choose the location? Tell us a little about the setting, the styling and some of your favourite details…

We knew that our wedding style would be determined by our venue and we knew that we would know when we found the right one. Wanting to keep close to home in the bay of plenty we looked at about four venues but knew right away that the Black Walnut was for us. Not only was it spacious and beautiful but it had many different location options on site, all of which were stunning. We found the Bamboo glade to be our favourite as it had a very calm and serene feel which is what we wanted for the day.

While I initially wanted a bold and modern style, once I fell in love with my dress, I knew that classic soft elegance was the way to go, with lots of pastel colours to complement the silver and cream with my dress. After that was sorted everything just fell into place. I loved that my bridesmaid’s dresses had a similar style embroidery to tie in with my dress and guys ties had the same shade of purples and pinks used for the flowers.

Tell us about your wedding dress and any tips you have for future brides….

Not knowing what style of dress would suit me i kept an open mind when first going to look; the only thing I knew was that I did not want strapless or anything too princessy. My dress ended up being the second dress I tried on and I knew right away it was the one. The silver glitter with the A-line shape complimented my pale skin and body shape perfectly. The cream and white embroidery gave it the vintage Look I love and the deep cut front and back showed the perfect amount of skin to make me feel beautiful.

It can get very overwhelming trying on dress and looking online definitely doesn’t help as while some dresses look great on models they don’t always look the same on me. I found keeping it to 2 stores that had a good range of dress styles and prices gave me enough variety to keep a top 2 dresses without leaving me feel overwhelmed. I think people need to be open minded to trying on a dress from a varying of different shapes and styles as what you think you want is not always what looks best.

What was the most memorable moment from the day…

Most memorable moment was seeing my husband for the first time walking down the aisle. Definitely not an image I will forget anytime soon.

Any advice you would like to share with other couples getting married…

Your wedding is a reflection on who you are as a couple not what other people feel you should do. Try not to let other people’s beliefs cloud the judgement for what you want on your special day. Everything will come together in the end and as long as you are both there with the people you love then the small details really aren’t that important.
