Tell us a little about you and your partner, what you do,  how did you meet, what you love, what is unique about you and your relationship…

I work as a Communications Specialist for Tearfund New Zealand and my husband works as a builder.

How we met is actually like something out of a movie! I was flatting with three other girls at the time and we were all moving out of our flat. I was looking online for somewhere else to live and came across my husband Rhys’s flat. He was head tenant and was looking for one more person to fill a room. I emailed Rhys and said I was interested in the room he had up on offer and asked if I could come around and check it out. Later that week I popped over to Rhys’s flat, where I met him and his sister for the first time, as his sister was also living with him. He showed m e around and text me later in the week offering me the room. I declined the room and instead asked him out for a coffee!! Little did I know that moment of courage would change my life. His sister, Sophie was one of my bridesmaids.

Rhys and I are also quite involved with Gracegate Church. I help run the youth programme there and we are both on the music team. I sing and Rhys plays the guitar.

Tell us about your special day, how did you choose the location? Tell us a little about the setting, the styling and some of your favourite details…

We got married at Bridgewater Country Estate. The location is absolutely beautiful! As you walk in, you walk under an archway and follow the stone pathway down to the clearing. There’s beautiful tall trees, flowers and greenery. Where the walkway stops at the bottom there’s a deck and an outdoor bar, perfect for hosting your guests on a hot summer day! Beside the outdoor bar is this gorgeous pond with lily pads and a white dinghy, this was one of our photo locations. I had about three people helping me into the dinghy for a photo, but it was worth it!

On the other side of the clearing is the most stunning white chapel, Rhys and I were married in front of it. Reception was back up the pathway, on top of the hill with a breath-taking view of tall trees and the chapel in the distance. The styling we kept quite simple and elegant.

The bridesmaids dresses were like a pink sangria. I brought some of that into the bouquets as well as of course the groomsmen ties and pocket squares. We also had this colour on our cake. I choose this colour as it contrasts so beautifully with the green garden. With our theme being rustic and garden, we stuck to browns, greens and whites.

We had giant brown barrels and mini tree stumps, we had white petals down the aisle and white flowers in jars. At the reception we choose white drapery and fairy lights. We also decided on greenery to go down the tables, candles and white flowers in jars for the centrepieces. Our styling was rustic and garden, but simple, stunning and elegant.

Tell us about your wedding dress and any tips you have for future brides….

Oh my goodness, I loved my dress. It was fitting with spaghetti straps and a low back, it had a beautiful train and stunning detail from top to bottom. It would sparkle in any light. It was actually completely different from what I was going for! My Jessica Bridal  stylist picked it out for me and I didn’t want to get out of it!!

I can’t thank the Jessica Bridal team enough! My experience there was so memorable. I was looked after so well and the staff just knew the dress I was after, even if I didn’t know it yet!

One big tip for the day. Just roll with it! I promise you things will go wrong, but no one else will know about it! Remember why you are getting married in the first place, to marry the love of your life! Also after your day, don’t get caught up on the things that went wrong, instead focus on the things that were beautiful. One more thing, just breathe, enjoy it, take a moment with your husband and take it all in. It’s a day you’ve been planning for months, if not years.

What was the most memorable moment from the day…

Jumping into the dinghy, most definitely! People thought I was crazy for doing it! Worst case scenario was that I would turn up to reception absolutely drenched!! I just didn’t think of the worst case and trusted Rhys to look after me!!

Honeymoon destination…

Queenstown. 100% recommend to anyone! Easy to get to and such a stunning location. We stayed at the Hilton overlooking the lake, breath-taking view.
