Tell us a little about you and your partner, what you do,  how did you meet, what you love, what is unique about you and your relationship…

Andrew is a registered architect and works as a project manager in a firm in Te Awamutu. I’m a registered social worker who specializes interviewing children. If you asked me how we met. I would say the stars happened to align for us to be together. However Andrew would say he looked for me. Andrew and I first met years ago at a bbq hosted by a mutual friend and  we never spoke to each other. Andrew relocated to Hamilton for work and I remained in Auckland for university. Andrew says he never forgot about me since the bbq and kept asking our mutual friends about me. Andrew moved to Auckland for work and reached out to me. We had our first date after exchanging a few text and everything just felt right. We’ve been inseparable since and we wouldn’t have it any other way. What we love about our relationship is that we are both Kenyan and everything with us was beyond effortless. It truly feels like we’ve known each other for many years and that’s the best feeling.  What makes our relationship unique is that we had 2 weddings. One traditional wedding back in Kenya in August 2019. We were so lucky to get celebrate with our families just before the skies closed. Our second wedding was 23 January 2021 and it was another magical day of celebrating our love with friends and family.

What was the theme/aesthetic of your big day?

Our traditional Kenyan wedding was amazing but not as intimate. So we wanted to make sure our 2nd wedding would be intimate and reflected who we were as a couple that loves nature beauty. I wanted to make the space felt romantic yet simply elegant due of the venues natural beauty.

Tell us about your special day, how did you choose the location? Tell us a little about the setting, the styling and some of your favourite details…

So when looking for venues we wanted to make sure the venue was naturally and effortless beautiful. We didn’t want to add much to the venue that would take away from it’s beauty. Hence why we decided on Okahu Bay Events Centre. Firstly the views are stunning and secondly the nature light no matter the weather made the space feel intimate and secluded from the moment you walked in. Once we decide on the venue it was easy to decide on the colour palette I liked that would compliment the space and make it feel romantic, delicate and elegant yet simple. I know nothing about flowers and was very lucky to have a patient florist Meghann from Go Flowers NZ. I sent her a lot of pictures of the type of flowers arrangements I wanted and finally decided on what I liked. Meghann assisted in decorating the church for the wedding mass and it looked amazing. My favorite part was walking down the aisle and putting a ring on Andrew’s finger. Hands down the best feeling to see a ring on his finger. It made it real. The dancing at the reception was epic I don’t think anyone ever left the dance floor.

Tell us about your wedding dress and any tips you have for future brides….

I can’t say I had an OMG moment with tears etc when I found the dress. I’m not that type of person naturally. But I know the moment I put it one it was the one for me. My mum wasn’t sure about the dress I loved and we had to have my brother attend one of the appointments to make the final call. I was glad that he picked the dress I loved because he said it looked like me. When I picked my dress I wasn’t pregnant, this later changed 😊 Jessica Bridal and the team were so helpful and really worked miracles on my dress to make me feel beautiful and comfortable in my dress. Jessica Bridal made the whole process easy and that is what I loved.

For future brides: I would say don’t go dress shopping with and huge entourage because they can be distracting and unhelpful.
Pick a dress that feels like you and makes you happy irrespective of what everyone else says because it’s your day. Don’t pick a dress to please others. Don’t sweat the small stuff because it’s not worth the stress. Enjoy your day, make sure you are mental, emotional and physically present because it all goes so quickly.

What was the most memorable moment from the day…

Walking down the aisle and seeing Andrew + putting a ring a his finger was very memorable 😊

What was the most “LOL” moment from the day…

The dancing that happened at the reception with all the guests and the selfie booth were the most LOL moments for sure.

Honeymoon destination…

We decided to do a babymoon to Queenstown after the wedding for ten days. We are waiting for international travel so we can go on our well deserved Honeymoon to a Tropical Island somewhere.
